Tip for Parents #76

TAKE GREAT CARE OF YOURSELF

(THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH KIDS)

If you don’t take good care of yourself, you can’t take good care of your kids. Here’s one simple way of taking care of yourself that you might want to try:

Try trading off that last hour of your day for the first hour of the next. For some people, you spend the last hour before sleep (because you finally have a moment for yourself) watching TV or checking your social media. Perhaps try to, instead, go to bed an hour early and spend that early morning time doing a thirty-minute workout, or meditating, or reading, or taking a nice, long bath or shower, or do a combination of these. Having this time can improve your physical and mental state every single day for the rest of your life.

Work out every morning before anyone else is awake and bothering you. If you take massive physical action every single morning, especially engaging your core and keeping your heartrate elevated for 30 minutes or more, it will have a profoundly positive impact on your mind and body.

Meditate every morning. This will create permanent and positive results in your mental being. Meditation works! So much of what we think are just parts of our personality are actually the manifestations of fear and conditioning. Even a five-minute meditation can have effects that will last all day.

Cut out meat, dairy, and sugar from your diet. This is the #1 most important health decision I have ever made. For the last several years, I have cut out dairy and meat from my everyday diet, and for the last year and a half I have cut out sweets completely. For what it’s worth, here are the health problems that ALL went away when I cut out meat and dairy from my diet and got rid of sweets altogether:

Congestion in my chest while sleeping

Nearly constant heartburn

Daily stomach pain

Severe energy swings

Inability to control my food intake

Nearly constant joint pain

(I also lost more than 30 pounds)

All of this also led me to have more overall energy, which I used to more effectively work out every day. I still eat meat and cheese once per week. I really look forward to that meal, as I also look forward to eating things like strawberries, nuts, blueberries, and bananas, all of which now taste amazing since I’m no longer destroying my tastebuds with processed, concentrated sugar!

Try yoga. It’s so good for you. It allows you to concentrate on yourself and allows you to improve your mental, emotional, and physical health all at the same time. Get up early before your kids might be tempted to bother you and take this time for yourself!
