The Kid Whisperer Podcast Featuring Scott Ervin and Pat Kiely: Episode 15
Topics in this episode include:
How do you teach a kid respect? Not just for people, but for things, as well. For example: how to be responsible in caring for jackets or lunch containers, and how to respect them (not cutting clothes or leaving things at school). And what about respect for other people, like listening while others talk (especially with larger families) and not rolling your eyes?
How can my teenager be so academically smart but have no common sense? She's a really good kid, but she doesn't really seem to understand how the world works. I want her to get a grasp on these things before she learns to drive, gets a job, or leaves for college and will be on her own. How can I get her to apply her "book smarts" to the real world?
I am a high school teacher, and I'm struggling with trying to get a couple of parents "on my side." When I need to talk to these parents about a discipline issue with their student, they justify their kid's behavior and want to argue with me about why their kid is right and I'm wrong. I feel like these parents are completely undermining my authority as the teacher. What do I do?
